How To Pack for Months Without Checking A Bag

Packing for air travel can be really expensive, especially when you're traveling for a significant period of time. Over the last decade, air travel prices have sky rocketed when it comes to carry-on and checked luggage fees. Often times, cheap airfare means higher baggage prices. But with this handy how-to video, you can learn how to pack for months at a time and fit all your belongings into two carry-on bags. These tricks of the trade are fool proof for travelers all over the world, specifically for those who don't want to compromise quantity for cost. The methods shown below will save you hundreds in checked bag fees and may even allow you to add a destination to your adventure that you otherwise wouldn't be on able to do. Some tips mentioned in the video include:

1. Rolling Your Clothes

This is an alternative to folding that'll save a ton of space in your bags. By rolling your clothes, you can stick items side by side in the same space that would take up one article of clothing. You can also stick rolled up clothes in your shoes to save even more space...as long as you don't have smelly feet.

2. Packing Cubes and Zip Lock Bags

Recently, I invested in a set of packing cubes and it might be the best purchase I've ever made, as they're generally inexpensive compared to the value I get out of them. Think of them like bags inside of your bag. Not only is it great for organizing, but it also allows you to pack things more compressed in order to fit more. Instead of packing cubes, you can use ziplock bags. I prefer the packing cubes because they have zippers and are unlikely to pop open. With the zip locks and the packing cubes, its important to roll your clothes in order to get the most space out of them. I like to put shirts in one cube, pants in another, undergarments in a different one of those, etc.. This way, you can pull out a cube as you need it instead of rummaging through your bag. You can purchase packing cubes anywhere; I got mine from Amazon.

3. Wearing Your Heaviest Items on the Place

When traveling to cold climates, you often have to bring a lot more clothing. This can be frustrating as heavy jackets take up a lot of room. To save space, wear your heaviest items on the plane. As long as you make it through security, you don't necessarily have to wear the coats or jackets on the plane. You can always stick them in overhead storage. I suggest layering if you must, wearing sweaters under heavier jackets.
